Windpower

Testing

Database

This page will chronicle the information gained while testing the windmill(s) and any other little alternative energy projects in the mix.  I'll try to provide as much basic information as possible as many of the details from other sites are missing and you have to make guesses based on pictures, and sometimes reverse engineering doesn't cover all the subtle aspects required.

First Windmill:  The only major concerns I have with the first windmill are the coils don't have enough windings for adequate power production in lower wind conditions and that the windforce on the blades will warp the blade hub and push the magnets into the coils at high wind speeds.

  • Coils:  18 coils of #16 AWG wire, 25 windings, coils mounted directly over top of the magnets(or as close as possible
  • Magnets:  18 x 1½" x 3/16" NdFeB with ~.080" spacing
  • Blades:  3 blades, 25 degree straight pitch, blade "sail area" is 30" long with an 8" root, blade frame is 3/4" ID EMT, total prop diameter is 6½'
  • Air Gap:  ~1/16" - 3/32"
  • Power production:
